The ASPCA, among other animal-activist groups, have a lawsuit against Sarasota's beloved Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus to be heard this week in New York, charging mistreatment of the show's elephants. No, really.

Most people don't know this, but, sometime during the mid-1920s, some circus elephants escaped and lived in the largely unpopulated wilds of what is now North Port.
